Cabin Air Filter iStock

Reasons to Have Your Subaru Air Filters Replaced This Summer

Are you getting ready to schedule a routine maintenance appointment for your Subaru at the Thelen Subaru Service Center in Bay City, MI? We would like to remind you to add air filter service to the rest of the procedures that you’ll have done to your reliable family cruiser. Why should you have the cabin and engine air filters serviced at the same time as the rest of your vehicle this summer? Your air filters are vital to peak performance and efficiency so taking the time to have them replaced will result in an even more enjoyable daily cruising experience for everyone in the Subaru. When you choose Thelen as your go-to mid-Michigan Subaru service provider, you can trust that the components used in your appointment are made for your vehicle.

The Importance of Air Filter Service on Your Subaru

A Clean Engine Air Filter Improves Performance & Efficiency –

The engine air filter in your Subaru is responsible for making sure that the airflow sent through your engine is as clean as possible. The cleaner the air, the less effort your engine has to muster to achieve its peak performance. As such, you get improved overall fuel efficiency as well to go along with the excellent and dependable performance you love about your Subaru. This can also prevent faster wear and tear than usual.

Your Cabin Air Filter Provides Fresh Air & Helps Your HVAC System –

When your cabin air filter is dirty and/or clogged up, everyone in the vehicle will notice that the air quality in the vehicle is less than anticipated. A clogged filter also makes it harder for your vehicle’s HVAC system to efficiently get fresh air into the cabin, causing your Subaru to have to use more energy to get your vehicle properly cooled off. Taking the opportunity to have your cabin air filter replaced will not only improve the freshness of the air you breathe by more readily removing airborne debris such as dust and pollen, but it also makes your vehicle function even more efficiently overall.

Check Oil iStock

The Importance of Keeping Up with Oil Changes

The motor oil in your vehicle is what keeps your engine running, so knowing how to check your oil level is very important. Keeping an eye on it regularly can help you catch if there is anything wrong and if the levels are getting too low too quickly. Motor oil lubricates the engine’s internal moving pieces so those pieces do not break down quickly. It also helps to keep your engine clean, prevents overheating, and prevents dirt build-up.

Checking Your Engine’s Oil

Before you even start, your vehicle must be on even ground and not slanting. This will allow you to get an accurate read on the level of your oil. Be sure the engine is off and cooled down. Have some paper towels nearby.

When you open the hood, just locate the dipstick (which is generally in a bright color like yellow or orange) and pull it out. Use your paper towel to wipe the dipstick instead of reading the level since it will not be accurate. Then insert it into the tank again, and then pull it out once more. The oil sitting on the dipstick should show you the level your tank is at and if you need to add any oil. If it is below the minimum mark, add a small amount of oil (approved by your vehicle’s manufacturer guidelines) and see if it levels out. If you re-check and it still shows lower than the minimum mark, add more until it is sufficient but not overfilled. This could mean your vehicle is burning too much oil or leaking and needs to be evaluated by a mechanic.

Checking the color of the oil is also important the first time you remove the dipstick. Oil should be a dark color like brown or black. If there is a lighter appearance or a milkiness, you may have coolant leaking into your engine and mixing, which means you need to schedule a service appointment. You want to check for metal particles too – it may indicate an internal engine issue you may not have known about.

Bring Your Subaru into Thelen Subaru in Michigan

If you’ve followed these steps and find that your Subaru has a potential issue, schedule an appointment with our expert service center! Thelen Subaru in Bay City, Michigan, employs a knowledgeable team of skilled mechanics that can assist you with oil changes and other potential engine issues. New or CPO?

When you are ready to start the vehicle purchasing process, deciding between a new and a Certified PreOwned Subaru is a large decision. There are benefits to both options but either option means a quality Subaru for you to enjoy! Whichever you choose, Thelen Subaru in Bay City, Michigan, is ready to assist you through the vehicle purchasing process. We offer a large selection of new and CPO Subaru models to choose from, so stop in today to take a test drive!

Should I Choose a New Subaru?

There are many benefits to purchasing a brand-new Subaru! First and foremost, you will put almost every mile on your new vehicle when you purchase it. You will also be backed by warranties and enjoy the most up-to-date technologies and features. If you order it, you can also customize your purchase to your wants and needs. However, with buying a new car, it is usually more expensive at time of purchase. Plus, you never know what the future holds for the resale value once you’re ready to switch vehicles.

Should I Choose a Certified PreOwned Subaru?

The Subaru Certified PreOwned program will provide you with numerous benefits if you opt for a gently used CPO vehicle: 7-year/100,00-mile powertrain warranty, 24/7 roadside assistance, and a full CarFax vehicle history report. Plus, a Subaru must pass a 152-point safety inspection in order to qualify for the program. That means you get some of the benefits of buying a new vehicle, while experiencing money saving benefits of a preowned model. Some challenges might include less inventory choices, not being able to choose custom features, and they are still technically a used vehicles.

Let Thelen Subaru Help You Find Your Next Vehicle!

We keep an excellent selection of both new and CPO models at our Bay City dealership, convenient to Saginaw, Midland, Mt. Pleasant and Gladwin.
