What Documents Do I Need for My Vehicle Purchase?

Buying a new vehicle is an exciting time…but it can also be stressful.  Whether you are purchasing or leasing a new vehicle or a pre-owned one at Thelen Subaru in Bay City, we want to make it a pleasant and stress-free experience.  Being prepared will be essential to enjoyable vehicle buying.  Before your purchase, take the time to adequately research vehicle options so you can be sure about the model you are choosing.  Then gather required documentation so you have it readily available when you come into the dealership.

Documents to Make Sure You Bring to Purchase a New Vehicle

Driver’s License.  Be sure you bring your driver’s license to show that you can legally drive away in the vehicle.  Make sure it is valid and not expired!  This also serves as proof of address required for vehicle financing. 

Proof of Insurance.  Valid automobile insurance is required to take possession of a vehicle.  Be sure to bring a valid insurance card.

Trade-In Documentation.  If you will be trading in a vehicle, make sure you have pertinent documents for that vehicle.  Those documents might include the current registration or title.  Plus, bring any maintenance documentation you might have that could help the dealership establish a favorable vehicle valuation.

Financial Documents.  If you will be financing your vehicle, there are several documents you might need.  Pay stubs will be required to document your income.  If you are self-employed, consult with our finance department about acceptable documentation.  Also, bring some recent utility bills to help establish residency.  Our helpful finance center team will provide more information on required documentation for your specific financing situation.
